Project Details
- Location - Avendale and Antonio, Ladera Ranch
- Projected Start Date - February 2008
- What is it? - Natural Gas Peaker Power Plant
Project Fact Sheet (modified from Margarita Energy Center Project Fact Sheet)
- 46 megawatt, natural gas-fired gas turbine based
- Prime mover will be a sound attenuated aircraft engine adapted for power generation
- The project will produce enough power for approximately 30,000 homes' power needs, e.g. during high-load summer afternoons
- SDG&E has stated the plant will run around 200 hours per year, but are having the plant permitted to run 2,460 hours per year
- Operating times will be during peak periods of power usage (9:00 am - 8:00 pm)
Facility Purpose
- Wellhead Power Margarita, LLC will provide additional electricity to the grid on an intermittent basis to provide needed power during periods of peak demand. Wellhead Power Margarita, LLC is an independent power producer and is responsible for the development and operation of the proposed power plant.
Project Description
- The project consists of installing a power plant with the capability of generating a total of 48.2 megawatts (MW) of electrical power consisting of one LM6000 PC Sprint gas turbine configured for simple cycle operation with associated air pollution control system, an internal combustion engine, and an aqueous ammonia storage tank. Since the above equipment has the potential to emit pollutants in excess of the levels specified in AQMD Rule 212(g), a public notice is required.
